Genealogical research is a new adventure for many. You may have questions like:
- How do we start?
- What happens next?
- What should I expect?
It is really very straightforward and simple. We begin our journey with a few easy steps:
Step 1: Contact me– By email (Christine@OurProvenance.com) or phone (720-480-0927) and let me know what you are looking for. Give a brief one or two sentences about your goal. Be sure to include your phone number if you would like a callback.
Step 2: Consultation – I offer a free 30-minute consultation. I would prefer to meet you in person, but this can also be accomplished over the phone. Each person’s journey is unique, and it is important that I gain a clear understanding of your vision for your genealogical research.
Step 3: Contract Signing – I want to be sure you have a clear understanding of what to expect and the opportunity to ask questions. The contract will include:
- Services and Fee Schedule – This outlines my fees and any other fees that might be incurred, like ordering a copy of a birth certificate. It includes a list of tasks I may employ while researching your family. You will be asked to initial and date this document.
- Genealogical Services Request – Summarizes the parameters we have agreed to for your project. You will be asked to sign and date this documents.
Step 4: The Research – This is where I get busy researching your family history. I request that you stop any further genealogical research while I work on your project. I need to have a fixed baseline from which to start research, because every time you send me new material I need to take time to evaluate the quality and usefulness of it, time for which you are paying — and that I can better use for targeted research in other collections.
Step 5: Written Report – The written report will describe the steps taken to research the project and the results. This report will be delivered to you via email in a PDF format.
You will receive most of these documents via email so that you can provide an electronic signature and date, and for tracking purposes. You will receive an email with a link to the document that will guide you through the sections that need initials, signatures, and dates. Once you have submitted your signatures, you can access the documents at any time if you would like to print or refer back to them at a later date.
Step 6: Permissions to Use Research Results – I respect the privacy of my clients. If for any reason, you do not want to share information discovered during your project, I will honor that preference. However, I would appreciate your permission to use parts of the research for lecturing, teaching or certification purposes. If you feel comfortable sharing this information, you will be asked to sign thePermissions to Use Research Results form. A sample copy of the form is included in the Client Contract Package. (Note that Our Provenance, Ltd., cannot be responsible for public access to information that is already in the public domain.)
Below is a copy of a Client Contract Package. The Client Contract Package provides examples of the contracts and documents we will use to proceed.
