!!! New !!!! – Genealogy TV – Footnotes Series – The Southern Claims Commission

January 19, 2019 @ 2:00 am EST

The Southern Claims Commission was an organization of the executive branch of the United States government from 1871 to 1880 under President Ulysses S. Grant. Its purpose was to allow Union sympathizers who had lived in the Southern states during the American Civil War, 1861–1865, to apply for reimbursements for property relinquished to U.S. Army during the war.

This collection of records contains a rich source of genealogical information. Pre-claims exist as early as March 29, 1864, and post-claims as late as April 17, 1900.
